Communities In Schools of Central Texas is looking for people passionate about creating lasting change in their community while growing personally and professionally in a uniquely supportive community. Our AmeriCorps members work to end generational poverty and close the opportunity gap by serving as mentors and providing academic support to students in Central Texas public schools.
We are seeking dedicated, responsible applicants with a genuine passion for equity in education. We prioritize applicants who clearly demonstrate a growth mindset and commitment to completing their term of service. As an organization deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, applicants from all backgrounds are welcomed and encouraged to apply – especially bilingual applicants and individuals with disabilities. No college degree or prior experience needed! Ongoing training and support will be provided to all members, including access to an exclusive CIS Central Texas learning system, peer support, and professional skills coaching.
Living allowance - $16,000 total (before taxes), $1,600/mo
Education award (money to pay off current or future education costs) - $6,345

AmeriCorps members are placed at elementary and middle school campuses in Austin ISD, Manor ISD, San Marcos CISD, Hays CISD, Lockhart ISD, Elgin ISD, and Bastrop ISD.
Program Dates: September, 1 2021- June, 30 2022. You must serve for the entire length of the program; start and end dates are not negotiable.
Hours: Full-time members will serve an average of 45 hours per week.
Service hours are expected between 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some service required on nights and weekends (infrequent, dates provided in advance).
Members receive November break, winter break, and spring break time off.
