About the Speakers
Dr. Amy Okpaku is the Medical Director for Ascension Connect Texas, which services virtual care for the Austin community. She is board certified in Family Medicine and has been working in the field of virtual care since 2017. Ascension Connect houses an entire virtual care team dedicated to providing virtual remote patient monitoring, virtual urgent care, and 24/7 RN triage.
Dr. Okpaku has developed algorithms and pathways in conjunction with the virtual care team to facilitate chronic disease management through a virtual disease program. She also has worked on a national level for the medical group to orient and educate provider groups in transitioning to a virtual practice in the face of the Covid-19 crisis.
Dr. Okpaku attended medical school at the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 2002. Following her graduation from residency in family medicine from Austin, Tx in 2005 she worked in multiple practice settings, spending most of her career until 2017 in academic medicine.
Mark Steiger is an executive, lecturer and thought leader in the healthcare IT industry. Currently, Mark is the Executive Director of Operations for the Central Region of AscensionConnect serving Ascension markets in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma from a 60,000 square foot 24/7 Solutions Center in Austin, TX. In this role Mark enables unified platforms to connect consumers and clinicians to the resources they need for optimized health and prevention. AscensionConnect seeks to span the entire continuum of patient engagement to create a frictionless consumer experience. Mark has rich and broad experience in virtual care, population health, patient access and experience, and leading edge remote clinical surveillance systems and technology.
Mark previously held leadership roles at CommUnityCare, Austin Regional Clinic and Texas Medical Association. Mark helped to develop and is a Faculty Affiliate with University of Texas’ Health Informatics and Health Information Technology certification program and has been a lecturer for eighteen successive cohorts. He holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Mark serves the Central Texas Community through his roles as Co-Chair of the American Heart Association’s Austin Heart Walk and as on United Way Austin’s Mission Integration Board. In his free time he is an avid cyclist and snow skier.
Jason Reichenberg is the President of Ascension Medical Group Texas, a multispecialty group which employs over 900 providers across the state. He is a Professor in Dermatology at Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, where his clinical practice and research has focused on autoimmune disease and skin cancer.
He was voted Young Physician of the Year for the greater Austin area in 2013, and his research won the “SciFi no longer award” at South by Southwest in 2015. He received his MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas, and has a passion for improving clinical quality, patient access and provider satisfaction.
Moderator
Caitlin Locke is a healthcare leader aspiring to transform the traditional healthcare model and experience. She has a strong background in strategic planning and consulting, project management, and operational best practices across the healthcare spectrum.
She is a strategy manager at Ascension Seton, part of the nation’s largest nonprofit health system and the world’s largest Catholic health system, serving Central Texas communities. In this role, she leads major capital projects by partnering with executive leaders and multi-disciplinary experts to deliver new infrastructure, services, and technology to enable better and more accessible care.
A northern California native, Caitlin moved to Austin to complete her Bachelor’s in Business Management at St. Edward’s University while playing on the women’s golf team. She also holds a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the Texas A&M University Health Science Center in College Station. She is a recent alumna of the Leadership Austin Emerge program, class of 2019 .
