Future of Work Hackathon

5/8/2020 - 5/10/2020

Description

Empower impacted workers to discover, learn and solve practical industry challenges

*** Please note: You will be redirected to the Future of Work's Hackathon registration page. You'll need to register there to compete and submit your entry.

WHY IT MATTERS

20+ million workers in the U.S. alone have filed for unemployment benefits in the first two weeks of April. We all personally know someone who has been furloughed or laid off. As we look ahead amid the global economic crisis to bring people back on their feet, many are emotionally devastated, financially concerned, and insecure about their ability to contribute.

In order to turn things around, we believe that it's crucial for us to redirect energy to learning new skills, solving critical problems and adding immediate value to potential employers. Employers who have practical problems to solve. Among our workforce there are those who need new challenges that push them to learn. They need to know that they can confidently make an impact today, from their home, with experience they already have from their respective industries.

OUR GOAL

To showcase innovative student and entrepreneurial talent. To build resumes and portfolio work. To bond new team members to advance each others' careers. And to connect our mentors, judges, and sponsors to the best minds to tackle these challenges of the future.

Each team will be offered the opportunity to select from industry challenges from industry tracks:

  1. Healthcare Topics:
    - Remote Diagnostics for telemedicine
    - Proof of Testing / Vaccine in the future at events & public places
    - Healthcare Pre-Screening

  2. Transportation / Logistics

  3. Energy

  4. Construction

  5. Retail / Physical Stores

ELIGIBILITY

All individuals, regardless of location, are encouraged to participate. Individuals can sign up as teams (we recommend teams of no more than 5 members for productivity) or can be matched into teams.

Graduate students focused in industries such as energy, transportation / logistics, construction, healthcare, and retail / physical stores will receive priority access to team formation.

REQUIREMENTS

The final presentation will include a live presentation of 3 mins to our Hackathon Judges that showcases design, research and demo of a working prototype. Followed by 2 min Q&A.
